Third International Conference «Regional-level Cooperation Within BRICS: Modern Environmental and Nature Management Issues»

Dear colleagues,

you are invited to take part in the Third International Conference “Regional-level Cooperation Within BRICS: Modern Environmental and Nature Management Issues” to be held at the KarRC RAS on September 15-17, 2026.

The Conference is devoted to the 80th anniversary of founding the Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences and aims to discuss scientific issues related to nature management and environmental security in the framework of regional-level cooperation within BRICS and other international alliances, including the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The following topics are suggested for the plenary and thematic sessions:
• Global and regional environmental issues in the focus of interdisciplinary research;
• Sustainable nature management in BRICS and CIS countries: regional and international cooperation experiences;
• Science/Business/Government collaboration in tackling global challenges of sustainable territorial development.

    To register as a participant please fill out and submit the Registration form and the abstract of your paper (see First Circular for format guidelines) not later than August 15, 2026 to the Organizing Committee at , .

    Participation is subject to a conference fee.

    The number of participants is limited. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to select applications for participation in the conference sessions.

    Formal invitation

    Please inform the Organizing Committee if you need a formal invitation letter for coming to the Conference and obtaining visas.

    Presentations

    Provisional time allocated per presentation is 20 minutes (15 min for presentation, 5 min for Q&A). The presentation is to be made as a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation (*.ppt) or a Portable Document Format file (*.pdf) to be demonstrated using a slide projector.
    The Conference permits both online and offline formats for speakers and offline format (including poster session) for non-presenting participants.

    The Conference languages are Russian and English.

    Participants are expected to pay for their own accommodation, travel to and from the conference venue, as well as excursion programs. Some travel grants may be offered to leading international experts and young scientists.

    An electronic book of abstracts will be published after the Conference. The best papers will be recommended for publication in the journal Transactions of the Karelian Research Centre RAS (Q1 of the White List of Russian Scientific Journals).


    Key Dates and Deadlines

    June 5, 2026 – First Circular is sent out; start of application and abstract submission
    July 1 – July 31, 2026 – Second Circular is sent out
    August 15, 2026 – deadline for submitting applications
    August 15 – September 9, 2026 - Third Circular and draft program sent out
    September 15 – 16, 2026 – conference sessions
    September 17, 2026 – offsite excursions

    Cultural Activities in Petrozavodsk:

    On the conference days, participants will be offered a chance to visit museums and exhibitions within the KarRC RAS (to choose from):
    - Museum of Precambrian Geology
    - Museum of Applied Environmental Research
    - Abnormal Wood Collection
    - Archeological Museum
    These tours, guided by researchers from KarRC RAS, are free of charge

    Excursions:

    On September 17th, tours will be arranged to national destinations of Karelia with three options to choose from:
    • Kivach Nature Reserve and Girvas Paleovolcano;
    • Petrozavodsk Bay of Lake Onego, Kizhi Open-air Museum;
    • Ruskeala Mining Park.
