A multidisciplinary team from KarRC RAS started doing fieldwork within the international project "Water management in Baltic forests – WAMBAF Tool Box" implemented under the INTERREG Baltic Sea Region Programme. The team is made up of specialists in hydrobiology, silviculture, botany and soil science.

Appreciation for the work of the Karelian Research Centre RAS under the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation on the development of the Green Belt of Fennoscandia was expressed at the videoconference between the Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment of the Russian Federation Dmitry Kobylkin and Minister of the Environment and Climate of the Finnish Republic Krista Mikkonen, with participation of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Finland to Russia Mikko Hautala. Over the ten years since the signing of the MOU much has been done in spheres such as the environment, economy, and social development.

On March 3-4, 2020 a workshop on the project “Water management in Baltic forests – Tool box” – WAMBAF Tool Box, took place in Riga. Its main organizer was the Latvian State Forest Research Institute Silava.

The international consortium involving a group of scientists from KarRC RAS and the University of Oulu (Finland), implementing the project SUPER, which targets the conservation of UNESCO cultural and natural heritage sites, is working out guidelines for remediation of unauthorized waste dumps. SUPER project is implemented within the ENI Karelia Cross-border Cooperation Programme.

The head of the Petrozavodsk Office of the Consulate General of Finland in St. Petersburg Mr. Johannes Puukki paid a visit to KarRC RAS on March 5th. During the working meeting, KarRC RAS President Olga Bakhmet told the guest about the Centre’s promising research areas and shared the experience of implementing international projects funded by cross-border cooperation programmes.

March 3rd celebrated the Russia-Norway Cooperation Day at KarRC RAS. This important day began with the launching ceremony of the exhibition “Polar Night. Life and Light in the Dead of Night”, based on the findings obtained through collaboration with foreign colleagues.
