KarRC RAS signs a Memorandum of Understanding with the Bundelkhand University, India

Karelian Research Center is furthering its cooperation with Indian colleagues. On March 18, a Memorandum of Understanding between KarRC RAS and Bundelkhand University was signed in the city of Jhansi. KarRC RAS was represented at the ceremony by Deputy Director General Alexander Slabunov, who has been cooperating with scientists from India in the field of geology for many years. The new agreement is designed to scale this experience to other fields as well: water and climate change research, biology, mathematics, economics.

The experience of scientists of the Karelian Research Center RAS in the establishment and development of protected areas in the Republic of Karelia was highly appraised at the International Forum “Ecology of Big City”, which closed in St. Petersburg on March 14.

Karelian scientists will cooperate with colleagues from India in the study of water resources and climate change

Karelian Research Centre RAS signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Chanakya University (Bangalore, India). The envisaged cooperation topics include water resource management, climate change effects, greenhouse gas fluxes in aquatic ecosystems, conservation and restoration of water bodies, and some others.

Heads of KarRC RAS scientific subdivisions informed about previous year’s work

January 29 completed the two-day session of the Learned Council of the Karelian Research Center RAS devoted to the results of its institutes' activities in 2024. The directors of the Institute of Applied Mathematical Research, Institute of Economics, Institute of Linguistics, Literature and History and the Head of the Department for Multidisciplinary Research delivered their reports.

Prospects for regional scientific cooperation within the BRICS Green Agenda framework were presented by Olga Bakhmet, Corresponding Academician, KarRC RAS Director General, at the International Conference “Greater Eurasia: national and civilizational aspects of development and cooperation”, which is taking place in Moscow on November 27-29.

On November 17-23, a delegation representing several units of the Karelian Research Center RAS visited scientific organizations of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Nanjing and Beijing. Together with Chinese colleagues, the scientists discussed topics for joint research and agreed to prepare applications for projects on the study of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Formal cooperation agreements are to be prepared with the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research and the Tibetan Plateau Research Institute CAS.

Regional cooperation of the BRICS countries in the sphere of ecology and nature management, as well as the results of a study of the environmental wellbeing of Arctic territories of European Russia were discussed at the Karelian Research Center RAS at the workshop “Integrated Development of Arctic Territories: Expert Opinion”. The event was organized on November 25 by the Department for Multidisciplinary Research KarRC RAS.

A delegation representing several institutes of the Karelian Research Center RAS headed by Director General Olga Bakhmet is on a visit to China. Scientists together with their Chinese colleagues discussed possible cooperation with representatives of the Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology and the Institute of Soil Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

KarRC RAS Director General Olga Bakhmet took part in the Strategic Forum-2024 held in St. Petersburg on October 10-11. The director acted as a panelist at the sessions devoted to cooperation between regions of Russia and Belarus, as well as green investments and public-private partnership for sustainable development of cities and regions. During the former, Corresponding Academician emphasized the need to establish a joint research funding program for scientists from Russia and Belarus.

Arsenyev's Readings, a traditional conference dealing with questions of economic geography and spatial development statistics, started at the Karelian Research Center RAS. It is held biennially by the Institute of Economics KarRC RAS. This year the conference is timed to the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the 235th anniversary of birth of Academician Konstantin Arsenyev. “Thanks to him Petrozavodsk and Karelia can be considered the birthplace of Russian statistics and the place where the world-famous Russian economic geography school was born”, - noted Director of the Institute of Economics KarRC RAS Tatyana Morozova.
